My sculpture is inspired by the iconic Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama. Her use of polka dots, vibrant colours, and line making have had a positive influence on my artistic style. I am especially drawn to her philosophical approach to patterns and shapes, which encourages creative play and a sense of wonder.
Her love of nature and the world around us, as well as her fascination with culture, relates closely with me and my work. I wanted to acknowledge Yayoi’s style but combine it with my style of pattern making and use of colour which works perfectly together. By experimenting with dots, lines and overlapping colour, I hope to create a sense of infinity and connection to our environment, much like Kusama does.
"I hope it brings a smile to anyone who sees it, and encourages creative play and a sense of wonder. "

I am blown away by the reaction from the public so far. So many children and families have seen the sculpture and shared photographs across social media with lovely messages. Here are some of my favourites so far. Please tag @mrasingh when sharing your photo of Polka Dot.
