'Sherwood The Wise' Owl sculpture, Nottingham

Location: Broad Street/Heathcoat Street, Nottingham, 2020. Wise Owl Walk

The Wise Owl Walk was a trail spanning throughout Nottingham's city centre. The goal was to find all of the statues of the Wise Owls which are placed around the city. To find them you were given a map and some hints to help you find them them.

Every Wise Owl was completely unique and designed by a roster of talented artists. There were 10 owls to discover around the city, complete with informative plaques detailing the inspiration behind the artwork.





The process

The vibrant colours and bold patterns are inspired by Sherwood Forest with a nod to the red/green in the flag of Nottinghamshire

The overall design is influenced by nature from the thick foliage, tree bark to the rich blue sky and amplified through the use of texture and intricate patterns.

The Wise Owl Walk is a trail spanning throughout Nottingham City centre and is perfect for people of all ages but may be particularly fun day out for families. The goal is to find all our Wise Owls which we've placed around the city. We'll give you a map and some hints to help you find them but you'll need a keen eye to discover the exact locations! Every Wise Owl is completely unique and has been designed by a roster of talented artists. Do you have what it takes to win this gigantic game of hide and seek?


The reaction from the public

#SherwoodTheWise Gorilla was loved by the public with many taking photos with the sculpture and sharing them across social media.

The final sculpture

Created in partnership with Wild in Art and a selection of artists; the Wise Owls are each a piece of beautiful of art in their own right. There are 10 owls to discover around the city, complete with informative plaques detailing the inspiration behind the artwork.
